The LEN European Short Course Championships look set for a roaring start on opening day as Europe’s top stars descend on Tollcross desperate to dominate early headlines.
A partisan Glasgow crowd will be thrilled by morning heats and evening finals for five days of top-class competition in the pool.
Eight individual events will kick off the championships on December 4, alongside the first relay races while the opening ceremony will start proceedings in the evening.
Six gold medals will be given out on the first day with the first medal event of the night, kicking off with the men’s 200m backstroke and culminating in the frantic men’s 4x50m freestyle relay.
Who to look out for?
Russia’s Kliment Kolesnikov emerged from Copenhagen with no fewer than four golds and will be out to defend two of his titles on the first night.
Kolesnikov has the opportunity to win the first gold of the session in the 200m backstroke final but may also feature as part of the Russian 4x50m freestyle relay team, gold medal winners two years ago.
Scottish fans might get their first glimpse of one of the home favourites as Ross Murdoch likely to contend for medals in the 50m breaststroke.
He’ll be joined by team-mate James Wilby but they’ll have to watch out reigning champion Italian Fabio Scozzoli while Brits James Guy, Joe Litchfield and Scott McLay will expect to challenge in the 100m butterfly.
Endurance will be tested in the women’s 800m freestyle heats in the morning, whereas the evening session will see the middle-distance swimmers battle it out in the women’s 400m individual medley and men’s 400m freestyle.
