Saturday at EuroSwim: Hosszu and Pellegrini headline

The penultimate day of competition at the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships will see more sensational racing in Glasgow.

Competitors from across Europe will dive back into action on day four as they try to book their place from the morning heats for the chance to top the podium in the evening finals.

Six individual gold medals are on offer alongside a fast and ferocious relay while spots for another three finals are on the line.

The first gold of the night will be won in the women’s 100m breaststroke final, but the evening will end in a flurry of medals as the splash and dash comes to a head with the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay.

Who to look out for?

The Iron Lady, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, will be back in the pool and hoping to claim what could be her fourth individual medal of the championships.

The multiple Olympic, World and European champion will contest her third individual medley of the week as she looks to retain her crown and claim the 200m event for the fourth consecutive time.

Another swimmer with world-class pedigree is Italian Federica Pellegrini, who will race in the 200m freestyle in the hope of regaining the title she won in 2013 and 2015.

British interest on the night will come in the shape of James Wilby and Ross Murdoch in the 100m breaststroke where they will do battle with 2017 silver medallist Fabio Scozzoli.

Georgia Davies is another Brit with high hopes – she will be looking to medal in the 50m backstroke – while Molly Renshaw may feature in the 100m breaststroke final.

France’s Florent Manaudou will likely do battle in the 50m butterfly where he will aim to prevent Aleksander Popkov from retaining his title.
